ARE you a midwife, children’s nurse or doctor who would like to share your medical expertise with your counterparts in Uganda?

The Rotary Club (District 1090) is looking for volunteers to join its team travelling to Kamuli Mission Hospital, to deliver training in baby and child care in April and October.

Hillingdon Hospital midwife Gillian Pearce has volunteered on several occasions and recommends the experience to colleagues, even though equipment and medicines are in short supply, compared to the NHS.

Gillian said: “It’s a valuable lesson in resources because you have to make do with what you’ve got and be flexible enough to come up with an alternative if it isn’t.

“It also teaches you to be practical and a good communicator. You come away with a better understanding of yourself and others - and that can only be a good thing.”
