YOUNG people who triumphed in the Borough of Hillingdon's UK Youth Parliament elections have officially started their term of office.

On Monday, the borough’s UKYP representatives for 2015-16 met Cllr David Simmonds, deputy leader of Hillingdon Council, and Tom Murphy, Head of Early Intervention Services, at the Civic Centre to discuss their priorities for the year ahead.

Melissa Braithwaite, 16, of Douay Martys sixth form in Ickenham, Talin Aslanian, 16, of Bishop Ramsey sixth form in Ruislip, and their deputy, Anurag Mathur, 16, of Ruislip High School, were elected after canvassing in schools across the borough.

Cllr Simmonds said: “It is good to know that young people in the borough are enthusiastic about the democratic process and campaigning about important issues."
