DUVETS no longer needed by Brunel University students at the end of the academic year have been collected by Hillingdon Council's waste and recycling team and donated to local animal charities.

Cats and dogs rescued by The Dogs Trust in Harefield and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are cosier now, thanks to the borough’s delivery of 1,000 duvets, which are used as bedding.

If they were not donated to charity, the duvets would end up in landfill.

Cllr Keith Burrows, cabinet member for recycling, said: “I must commend the team for going the extra mile to help cats and dogs in need of a comfortable bed and saving unwanted duvets from ending up in landfill sites.

“This year our waste and recycling team collected more than 1,000 duvets – 800 for the Dogs Trust in Harefield and the rest for Battersea Dogs and Cats’ Home, Old Windsor site."
