PLAYERS at the Stuart Lyddon Appreciation Group (SLAGs) annual charity golf day on Friday at Wexham Park Golf Centre raised another £1,250 for the King’s College Hospital Charity in London, adding to an overall total of £11,745 over 10 years.

Stu Lyddon, who lived in West Drayton, was given a bone marrow transplant at King’s College Hospital but died 10 years ago at the age of 39.

Each year, his friends have organised the golf day to ensure something positive came from his sad loss. The humorous bunch chose golf as Stu really didn’t like the game at all!

Seventeen of his friends and colleagues took part this year. There is usually a theme, and this year saw the appearance of James Bond, Goldfinger and his associates!

Competition was fierce, as always, to avoid being awarded the Flusher Trophy, a toilet seat that the loo-sing team wears.

Money raised by the SLAGs has provided bedside fridges for patients in the Derek Mitchell Unit and Davidson Ward at King’s, where Stuart was treated.

Simon Hunter, who organised the event, said: “It was yet another day of laughter. I think we’ve quoted just about every James Bond phrase that ever was!”

Mehreen Syed, sports events manager in King’s College’s fund-raising team, added: “All donations help provide the very best care to patients and enable researchers to develop further life-changing treatments.”
