ONLINE supermarket Ocado has announced plans for a new delivery hub creating 200 new jobs in Hillingdon.

The hub, measuring nearly 57,000 square foot, is to open in Stockley Close in October and will be home to about 90 delivery vans.

Ocado are recruiting now for 200 permanent drivers to deliver shopping to customers’ homes.

Director of HR Julie Markey said: “As we continue to expand our business in Greater London, we’re excited to announce the opening of our newest delivery hub in Hillingdon.

“Our drivers are the face of our brand and critical to our success. Many drivers who have joined our team in the past few years have now developed into managerial, marshalling or training roles.”

Christopher Andrews, who joined Ocado as a driver two years ago, said: “I've been given various opportunities to develop my skills. In particular, I was delighted to be promoted to my role as a trainer, allowing me to use my coaching skills, which I really enjoy.

“I also regularly buddy up with new recruits to show them the ropes and I feel like I'm really making a difference."

Candidates must hold an EU or UK driving licence. The company promises a 15 per cent staff discount, and private healthcare after qualifying service.

The retailer said it serves more than 471,000 customers across the UK and announced a profit of £7 million earlier this year.
