A KEY west London bus route is starting to run only double decker buses to meet increased passenger demand.

Transport for London (TfL) said by the end of August the number 90 bus - which runs between Northolt Station and Feltham, Leisure West - will be able to carry 87 people rather than 55.

The Metroline route will also see increased frequency of buses during Sunday shopping hours and all evenings, with one every quarter of an hour, up from every 20 minutes.

The route passes through Yeading, Hayes, Harlington Corner and Hatton Cross Bus Station.

TfL said the changes would help cater for increased demand during the regeneration of Hayes town centre, where Crossrail services will be running from 2019.

John Barry, TfL’s head of network development for buses, said: “London’s bus network is kept under constant review in order to provide passengers with the best possible service.

“This service improvement means bigger buses and therefore more capacity on the route, and we are also increasing frequency on Sundays and in the evenings.”
