STUDENTS at an Uxbridge school have raised at least £700 to help two charities fighting cancer.

Pield Heath House School, for children aged seven to 19 with moderate to severe complex learning needs, raised £600 by holding a Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning on Friday and another £100 by doing Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk on Saturday.

The morning was hosted at the school in conjunction with Brunel University and raffled off prizes including a luxury hamper and tea for two at Rural Activities Garden Centre in Hillingdon.

Twelve members of staff at Pield Heath House, including teachers and teaching assistants, were among the 17,000 to take part in the annual Shine Night Walk across London, which passes some of London’s biggest landmarks including the Royal Albert Hall, The Shard and Big Ben.

The Pield Heath House team set off from Southwark Park at 8pm and completed the 13 mile route in five hours.

Sister Julie Rose, executive principal at the school, said: “We were delighted to take part in such a fabulous event.

“Everyone enjoyed the experience and agreed that the last two miles were the worst.

“We are pleased to have raised money for such a worthwhile cause which has affected many of us personally.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us.”

Sarah Squire, head of Shine Night Walk at Cancer Research UK, said: “Everyone who takes part in Shine Night Walk and raises money will make a huge difference to the lives of those affected by this terrible disease and help us reach the day when all cancers are finally cured.”

The school are expecting more donations to come in. They can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/louisemahon2015/
