THE largest office development in Uxbridge celebrated a landmark in its construction this week and is nearly ready to rent.

The revamped Charter Building, former headquarters of fizzy drinks giant Coca Cola, has reached the topping out stage and is on target to be complete in December this year.

It will provide 224,000 sq ft (20,810 sq m) of workspace near to Uxbridge tube station, with ceiling heights of up to four metres.

Councillor John Hensley, a guest at the topping out ceremony on Tuesday, said: “I am very fortunate as the Mayor of Hillingdon to see the progress of the development of this construction.

“The Charter Building has clear potential for success in Uxbridge and I know this landmark will complement the vibrant heart of Uxbridge town centre.”

Landid Property and Brockton Capital bought the £26.5 million building in a joint venture in early 2014.

They say their project has brought more than 1,600 construction jobs to Uxbridge since building work began in September 2014, including six apprentices employed through Hillingdon schools and colleges.

The Charter Building was stripped back to its structural frame and its total lettable space extended by almost half.

There is a new sixth floor and roof terrace, as well as an internal ‘street’ for occupiers to use as a collaborative space.

Tony Edgley, partner at Brockton Capital LLP, said: "Positioned to attract the very best talent, this project provides the right combination of design, connectivity, service, sustainability and value, within an amenity rich, urban setting.”
