A Hillingdon school student was left overwhelmed after her design was printed on to a new Routemaster London bus.

Sehba Basra, who attends Dr Triplett’s CofE Primary School, was chosen from more than 500 entries in the Exterion Media’s ‘Kids’ Wrapped Bus’ competition, with her design showing off the best of Hillingdon and the people in the area.

And with the bus taken out of service to visit Sehba and her school, the 11-year-old feels seeing her hard work on display all across London was a dream experience.

“I wanted to create a design based on Hillingdon, looking at as many people as I could across the community,” said Sehba, who spent six hours creating her prize-winning design.

“Our school motto is love, compassion, respect, so I wanted to include as much of that as possible.

“My friends have only just seen the design and it’s overwhelming; to win the competition was just fantastic.”

Sehba’s work was adjudged to best fit the criteria, showing her love for Hillingdon and its community, culture and inspirations: notably the Farm Country Park and London Motor Museum.

But for Sehba, whose sister Muscaan also featured in the competition’s top 20, the news of her success wasn’t what she expected to hear.

“It’s so exciting, it’s such a special feeling for the bus to be at my school,” she added. “I’ve never been good at art so I’ve been practicing my skills and it’s lucky it has worked out!

“When the teacher told me I’d won I just couldn’t believe it, my heart was full of joy and I went bright red. It felt amazing.

“Everyone at the school, including the teachers, were really excited to see it and the school have been really helpful to me in being able to win.

"My family came to see it and there were loads of people congratulating me, I felt really proud of myself.”
