DISGRACED former England midfielder Ray Wilkins was handed a ten-week suspended jail sentence on Monday after being caught drinking behind the wheel earlier this month.

Hillingdon-born Wilkins, who pled guilty to drink-driving at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court after admitting to the court he was an alcoholic, was also disqualified from driving for four years.

The 59-year-old, who was seen drinking from a bottle while driving before attempting a U-turn, was nearly three times over the legal limit.

The former Queens Park Rangers manager was spotted by a member of the public driving his Mercedes in the middle of the road along the A4.

The citizen then took away his keys when the car was stationery in order to prevent an accident.

Wilkins, who has two previous drink-driving convictions dating back to 2013, was given a 10-week suspended prison sentence, ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work and was banned from driving for 48 months.
