IT’S derby day for Hayes & Yeading United on Non-League Day tomorrow as they face borough rivals Wealdstone at York Road, Maidenhead, 3pm.
Hayes spokesman Tim Fuell says: “There are a lot of old friendships that have built up over the years. Wealdstone manager, Gordon Bartlett led [the former] Yeading FC to FA Vase victory in 1990.”
United are in 12th place in the Conference South following a mixed start to the season, with newly-promoted Wealdstone, whose home is at Ruislip Manor, in 20th.
The annual Non-League Day is when supporters of Premier League and Championship clubs are encouraged to support their local non-league team as their own teams have no game during the international break.
Fuell added: “In the professional game, it’s rare you’ll ever meet your star player. In non-league, you may just be sharing a drink with them after the game.”
