TWO Sandy Lodge Golf Club players have made it through the regional qualifying stage of the 2105 Open Championship.

Sandy Lodge is one of 13 UK venues for the Open qualifying stage, which took place on Monday.

From a high-quality field of 102 players, the club’s assistant professional, Crue Elliott, posted the joint lowest score on 68, while Joel Field, a Sandy Lodge member, was only one shot behind.

Crue and Joel will face a tough test when Crue plays the final qualifier at Woburn and Joel at Royal Cinque Ports next Tuesday.

Clive Bailey, the Sandy Lodge, Northwood, general manager, said: “Only seven players from a very strong field of 102 succeeded in reaching the next stage, and for Sandy Lodge to have two of these places is a tremendous achievement.”

The world’s leading golfers are exempt from qualifying, but the 102 players at Sandy Lodge were top-flight amateurs or aspiring professionals.
