Watford have completed the signing of Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat.

The Hornets agreed a fee in the region of £7.5m with the Championship club and he has signed a four-year contract.

The Netherlands international right-back, who has 27 caps, is the latest addition to Vicarage Road following last week's signings of Roberto Pereyra and Younes Kaboul.

Janmaat joined Newcastle two years ago from Feyenoord and made 77 appearances for the Magpies.

The defender, who will be comfortable slotting into the right wing-back role in Walter Mazzarri's preferred 3-5-2 formation, has played twice this season for Newcastle with his last appearance coming in the home defeat to Huddersfield Town.

Newcastle agreed to Janmaat's sale with Rafa Benitez's side lining up Tottenham right-back DeAndre Yedlin as his replacement.

Janmaat's arrival raises doubt over Brice Dja Djédjé's role at the club with the right-back still sidelined due to a foot injury sustained before signing from Marseille this summer.

It also appears to signal Juan Carlos Paredes' future lies elsewhere after the full-back again failed to impress during last night's defeat to Gillingham.

Speaking about Watford's remaining activity before the transfer window shuts in a week, Mazzarri said: “The club knows the way I feel. There are probably one or two players that will come but I’m not making anyone leave.

"If some of the players want to leave, because they’re not getting enough playing time, then it’s up to them."
