HAYES Hawks BMX riders have had a busy couple of months, achieving some excellent results.

Fifteen riders went to the National Cycle Centre in Manchester for the last two rounds of the national series. As the only indoor BMX track in the UK and home to the GB team, anticipation of good results was high.

The club had five female riders ranging in ages from 9 to 30-plus. BMX typically has more male than female participation, but Hawks are growing their women and girls membership.

Iris Hajda, female 10, had a double win, dropping only one lap. This dominant performance leads her into the next year as national champion.

The Surtees sisters, Georgia, 11, and Maisie 9, the newest Hawks girls, flew round the track with smiles to match.

Talented siblings Megan and Charlie Roy raced confidently all weekend. Megan, 14, adds National No..2 to her European 4 ranking.

Anita Wong, 30-plus, showed grit and determination to compete on two bikes, no small feat in the heat of indoors during a weekend when Britain was basking in a September heatwave. Anita finished her national campaign in the No. 2 spot - her best result on the 20-inch bike.

Tate Kitson, 13, competing for the first time with two bikes, managed an impressive national ranking of seventh on his 24-inch cruiser. A third-place podium spot on the Sunday helped solidify him as one to watch in 2024.

Nate Barata, 14, Johnny Jackson, 15, and Dylan Seaman, 15, all made semi-finals in stacked race classes. Dylan and Johnny race each other on the track but maintain a friendship off it.

Shaun Tobin, 18, who is starting university, showed his skills on the track as well as in the classroom to come fifth on the Sunday.

Cody Coker, 14, whose dad Luke is the track manager at Hayes, made it on to the big stage and achieved top eight nationally.

Special mention goes to Chay Young, 16, who followed up stellar GCSE results, made his first A final in eight years. In a stacked 16-year-old male category, he came in sixth on Sunday.

Hayes Hawks BMX track will host a series of club races for newer riders, the first one this Saturday (23).
