THE sun shone just in time for the second round of the Hayes Hawks BMX club race on Saturday.

Fifty riders took a chance on the weather to show us their skills on the 350m Hawks track.

Among those who raced were siblings Madeline and Alistair North, who took a trip from their home track in Devon to mix it with the south region kids.

Racing against Alistair in the 7-8’s, our very own Joel Prichard (8) dug deep, demonstrating the edge on his local track to take a clean sweep of firsts across the day.

Reggie Hodson (6) also dominated this second round, taking another first in the final. Reggie is currently top of the leader board across the series. However, with two rounds left to go, can Aubrey Brunsden, also 6, catch him?

Big shout-outs go to friends and newer members of the club, Chase McDonald and Ryan Mackinlay who competed in their very first BMX race.

Also, taking their first pedals in BMX racing were Oliver Clutterbuck, Nathan Dan and David Levytskyy, who all had solid results.

Davide Lolli, a regular member of the Hayes Hawks crew, raced confidently in the 13+ Novices class to take the top spot in the final. That’s two firsts in a row for Davide who will have his eye on the trophy if he can hold on to his lead for Rounds three and four.

Our top step expert riders, keen to show of the skills that take them around the country to race in regional, national and even international events, were Riley Binnie (13), Chay Young (16) and Iris Hajda (10), who is also the current British and National No.1.

All of our expert riders started racing at club level, which is why holding these events is so important in the development of members.

In addition, having a well maintained track is key to the success of the club, which is why the club is raising funds for much track developments.

A cake sale kicked off the fund-raising efforts at round 2. Round 3 will take place come rain or shine on November 18.
